Blogging To Make Money Challenge – Week 3 Report

It seems just like yesterday that I published Week Two – Blogging To Make Money report. I guess with the Easter holidays many of us celebrated, week 3 was indeed rather short. But, I am not complaining.

I have taken a little time to spend with my family and friends. I am so glad I did. I completely forgot how good it feels to be among the ones I care about and love. It was a reminder to me that it is very important to take time to relax and refresh.

Many online marketers suffer from the “Shut Off Syndrome” where nothing but the computer screen is allowed. This syndrome not only isolates us, it often leads to a burn-out, de-motivation, procrastination and eventually a loss of productivity and effectiveness. And, sadly, in many cases it leads to failed relationships.

But enough of this rant, let’s get on with the report. During the week my progress was a bit lacking not only because of the holiday, but also because I got a flu bug and I just did not have enough energy to effectively spend working on this challenge to “make money blogging”.

My lackluster efforts affected the amount of traffic I was able to drive to my blog. Commenting on blogs and forums was reduced to minimum at this time and it definitely showed in the Google Analytics report. Initially the traffic fell almost to the original level, similar to the one just before I started this “blogging to make money” project.

But, despite the poor traffic results, not all was lost. I made another couple of sales. Interestingly, one of these sales was a “follow up” of the affiliate sale I made last week.

This is very important lesson. When we choose to promote affiliate products on our sites it is good to try to select products that lead to other related or upgrade products for which we will also receive commission.

I will be talking about blog affiliate marketing in other posts, here I just want to mention that although sales are wonderful, most importantly, whatever we decide to promote must be products we are completely familiar with and the products we can honestly promote to our readers.

Every product that I promote on this site is a tool or a service that I use and one that helped me and/or continues to improve my online business. The one that is making my blog money at the moment is the Big Commission Blueprint, an amazing course by Dean Holland. This course completely turned around my online business.

Blogging To Make Money – Week 3 Report Summary

Traffic Results

  • Total traffic: 186
  • Unique visitors: 144

Organic traffic rose again, this time by 47% and that is very exciting.

Page views: 714 pages

Average pages per visit: 3.84, slightly over last week’s figure

Bounce rate remained essentially the same at a low of 0.54%

Most encouraging was the time that visitors spent on my site – over 25 minutes!

Sales Results

As I mentioned above, the blog made sales this week despite reduced traffic. I have sold two products. Perhaps in the middle of the challenge to make money blogging, I will put together a summary of products and I’ll provide you with the exact earnings related to the sales.

I am very pleased with the overall results. My results already show that blogging to make money is possible even at the early stages of blogging. I really hope that the readers of my blog are also encouraged by these results and are able to see that with consistent and focused approach, even early on, small successes are possible.

I would love to get your feedback. I find my readers’ comments very supportive and also I find them a driving force to help me succeed in this challenge. So thank you for taking your time to comment.

    Hey Dita,

First congratulations on your progress. I’ve been there and done that and it’s just darn exciting.

Back at the end of 2010 I purchased a course and I created a new blog just for that experience. I shared one post a week and I gave my results of everything I had done. I started with the sites I was told to become a part of, the places I needed to sign up for my blog, how many blogs I visited and commented on, etc.

I had my own product even if it was a PLR but it was a darn good one I have to admit. For what worked three years ago it was good. Not so good now but I also logged my sales in as well. I told them the price of my product, how many sales I made, etc. Do you know that I made sales every single month for about seven months straight. I was so excited because if you follow along with the program and do what they say you will make the sales.

I was so excited so I know what you’re going through right now and every single little sale counts toward your experience. This will only help you in the long run. So I want to wish you the very best of luck with this and go get em!

      Hi Adrienne,

Thank you for sharing your experience here. I know it will help my readers. Consistence and persistence are a big plus in any business. Blogging is the same.

Thank you for your good wishes,

      Dita

    Hi Dita,
    Some good points here:

    – Life can, and often does, get in the way, but that’s, er, life!
    – You can make sales pretty quickly with a new blog, no reason why not if the offers match the visitors.
    – Blogging for profit is really a long term thing, traffic builds up momentum, as do the sales that follow.

Keep it up! I sort of wished I hadn’t missed this challenge when it started, due to me dealing with my own life distractions!
    Cheers,
    Gordon

    Hey Dita,

Sorry to hear that you were laid low with the flu. The sales must have been a booster for you after the bad start to the week.

I heard on a webinar recently that 81% of bloggers never even make $100 so you did well. You are now among the top 19%!

    Upwards and onwards!

I am pleased to hear that I am in the top 19%. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Also a good motivation to keep going at it.

      Cheers,

    Hi Dita,

Thanks for the honest update. It’s great to see you still going hard at it and it’s awesome that you still managed to generate sales despite the drop in your activity and the traffic.

I, too, have been in a similar situation, but without the sales. I’ve had a really bad couple of weeks suffering with my M.E. and it’s been a huge struggle to have enough energy to focus on even making posts in the Facebook groups, let alone actually putting the hard work in on my business.

Unfortunately (but unsurprisingly) I saw my traffic plummet, just like yourself, to pretty much the point it was before I started making a concerted effort via the challenge. But I’ve manage to take a positive thing from that and that is that’s it’s proof that the methods we’ve been taught to implement clearly have a direct correlation with the results we’ve been getting. So if we put the work in, we get the results but if we don’t then we don’t see the results. The positive thing is that the methods clearly WORK! Not that I had any doubt, but I found that being able to equate the slump to my reduced work actually gave me a boost!

So now it’s onwards and upwards for me. I’m still not very well but not feeling quite as bad as I have been so I’m currently trying to balance taking the opportunity to do some work when I’m feeling well enough but at the same time not going overboard and making myself worse.

Keep going Dita, you’re doing great. And I something I just feel compelled to point out is all the help and advice that you offer others, it’s really fantastic! Some visitors may be aware of this but some may not and I think that it’s good for people to know realise that you are a genuine person who is always ready to help in any way possible. Just thought I’d put that out there 😉

      Hi Glen,

I am sorry to hear about your M.E. I did not know and I admire you even more. I believe that you were the inspiration for this challenge.

I believe that you were the one of the first people to have a sale (in our FB group) and you got it as as a result of your actions you took that related to your blog.

I hope you will rebound soon and will be able to put out the awesome content that you always do.

      Take care,

      Dita

Wow, thanks for those kind words, Dita. I’ve never though of myself of being any sort of inspiration – I just try to get my head down, get on with things and help people along the way if I can. I’m glad to have your admiration, thank you. It’s really nice to know that I can make a difference 🙂

Awesome post Dita! Congratulations on your sales. You appear to be giving everyone hope that you know what, this stuff CAN actually work if you stick to your goals and persist. And its great to see that you are really tracking and monitoring your traffic. Keep it going!

I agree completely with your notion that we should only promote products that we are familiar with and honest about. It still amazes me that people can still promote something they, themselves, have neither tried nor ever used at all. Strange… But that is not what you provide and that’s great to see!

Again, congrats and keep it up!

      Hi Joshua,

Thank you for stopping by. I am really happy to see that my work is paying off. I trully am hoping that it will be an inspiration to others.

      Take care,

      Dita
