From time to time there may be a need to update your WordPress blog theme. I just found out that there was a major update to my WordPress theme. When I read the instructions on how to update my blog theme, my heart sank.
I could either delete the old version of the WordPress theme, then install the new version and lose some of the information (including options) I input into the theme. Or, I would have to put my “techie” hat on and do all kinds of maneuvers which, even with the magic hat would take me some time to figure out.
As you know me by now, I always try to find easier solutions than piddling with technicalities (as I am not a techie geek). With a little bit of research I got what I wanted. A fabulous plugin called “Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades” that does it all in less than 30 seconds. The plugin will ensure that you will retain all the options you have modified. As well, your theme will retain all your custom CSS (if your theme allows you to do add custom CSS).
Unfortunately, you will lose all information you might have added to your theme CSS through the Editor. Most people do not even touch this section of their theme, but let me give you an example of what I mean.
On this site, below the navigation bar, you can see an advertisement in a form of a banner and below that an adsense link ad. Because I wanted these to show on all my pages, I added the codes to the appropriate sheets in the theme editor. I did not have them in the custom CSS. So after I updated my new theme, I lost that information, which is understandable.
Getting back to this wonderful plugin, it will also update plugins. This feature is especially important in case you have some robust plugin installed, that may lose some functionalities you had to set up prior to updating. This plugin will take care of that.
I know that some of you are opposed to adding new plugins to your blog. Well, so am I. So with this plugin, you can just install it when you need it and then uninstall it after you are done with it. Than, store the plugin information in your swipe file and when you need to update your WordPress theme again you will not have to panic. Just retrieve the plugin info and repeat the process.

I had to figure out how to update my WordPress blog theme. It took me some time to figure it out. But then I found a way to update my theme without any hassles and without any fiddling with the technical aspects of the theme.I must have spent a couple of frustrating hours before I found a solution. By writing this post I hope, that I am able to save some of you the same frustration when the time will come.
Please leave me some feedback.
