3 Intangibles For Successful Online Business

When I first started online I learned something quite powerful and something that eventually paved my road to online success. I say eventually, because it took me a while to really understand the concept. Not because the concept is difficult to comprehend, but because I, like many other bloggers and online marketers, failed to fully embrace it. I am going to share a shortened version of that lesson with you today. I call it the 3 intangibles for successful online business.

The definition of intangible is something that is incapable of being perceived by the senses or something that is incapable of being realized or defined. Something that is intangible is abstract or it is hard to define and measure.

Building Successful Online Business Requires 3 Intangibles

The lesson was that if you are going to build a successful online business you will need to embrace the following 3 intangibles.

WHY – deep within your heart you really need to know why you want to have an online business. It does not matter if you are trying to build an online presence to make money or just to express your creativity. To succeed in your endeavor you MUST define your WHY.

For example, just to say that you started your online business because you want to make money, is not enough. Why do you want to make money online? Is it to buy a car, is it to finance your vacation, is it because you want to quit your job or is it because you want to become financially independent so you can spend less time working and more time with your loved ones?

Knowing your WHY will become your driving force towards achieving your goals.

BELIEVE – it is absolutely crucial that you strongly believe in that whatever you are undertaking IS POSSIBLE. There is no wavering! If you do not believe that achieving your goal of becoming successful online is possible, you will not succeed. If you believe, YOU WILL SUCCEED! There is no magic here. It is simple human psychology.

When you look around the internet you will find a lot of successful people who make comfortable income online. In my case, of course, I believe in my success. But what delayed my progress towards my goal was my intermittent doubt in myself and my ability to succeed.

I think of these episodes of doubt as binging episodes, like when one is on a diet. During my binges I lost my focus, purchased many useless products that “were going to teach me how to succeed” and on and on. As a matter of fact I became a shiny object junky.

About two years ago I came to my senses and returned to these 3 intangibles. Now, I strongly believe in my success. I never doubt myself. I never binge.

Yes, I encounter obstacles along my way but I always overcome them. I never stop believing that I can do it. My continuous success proves that I am on the right track.

If you will believe that anything is possible, that your goals are attainable, you will succeed!

MAKE THE LEAP – The operating principle, as my mentor taught me, is: Ready…Fire…Aim…

It takes courage, but you already have it. You are already here, online, making a go of it despite the fact that you know that majority of people who try to make money online fail.

The most important element of this last intangible is ACTION. To succeed, one has to take action each and every time. Don’t let your fears or insecurities stop you. Don’t let technical jargon scare you away.

I am a prime example. Before I started my online business I had no technical clue. I knew how to surf, email, copy and paste. I purchased one of those “business in the box ideas” that consisted of a cookie cutter website with programs and pages shared by hundreds or perhaps even thousands of others. I expected miracles. About a year into that “non-business” I realized that I need to blog.

For 6 months I pussy-footed around the idea of setting up a blog. The fear of the unknown completely blocked me. In the end I did it and discovered that setting it up was ridiculously simple. I often think about that time and I can’t believe that my fears completely took over my senses. What a waste of time!

Action is the foundational key to all success ~ Pablo Picasso

One of my favorite books is “Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway” by Susan Jeffers. If you ever feel the fear and find that it is keeping you stuck invest the few dollars and buy the book or borrow it from the library. I still re-read it whenever my fears begin to take a hold of me.

With respect to technical aspects, there is so much free quality help online. I am talking about forums, Facebook groups, Google+ groups and so on. All you need to do is find the forum that caters to your topic of interest and reach out. Most of them are free. Become a part of that community, interact with people and ask questions. Never, ever feel that your question is dumb! The only question that is dumb is the one you don’t ask.

Now that you are armed with the basic requirements you can build a successful online business… Go for it! Define your WHY… BELIEVE in yourself and your goals… and TAKE ACTION… If you will follow these 3 intangibles your online business will become successful.

My online successes really keep me smiling. That picture on the banner below is me, (seriously).

    Hey Dita!

It is amazing that you take on similar topics that I am thinking about around the same time 🙂

Also you eluded to it in a round about way… mindset. Your mindset has a lot to do with how you view everything and then approach it. Employees view things differently than the owner, each has their own mindset.

Success is that way also – how you view it and then approach it.

I like how you broke it down and stressed the importance of defining the why, embracing it, then taking action! 🙂

Hey Michel, it simply happens because although our blogs are written from a different angle, we both have the same goal in our mind. That is, to help our readers to to succeed. Over the years, both you and I made many mistakes, likely similar, ones and we came to the same conclusions. We both want to share this with out readers, in order to make their journey less bumpy. Good to see you here!

Very nice Dita – a great Monday’s lifter that one. (Although I will bet there are still some people out there who read that but just pay it lip service)
I agree totally with you on these principles, mainly because it is only recently (through the QSC), that I took the “why” seriously. Coupling this with the belief and then action actually fire’s something inside you that you can really feel, and this is strong stuff.
As Dean also reminds us, it’s important to have the “WHY” on the wall or desk, just to give us a reminder when needed.

      Hi Brian,
Each to his own. When a person reads an article, each one of us takes home a different message. And, that is OK. Eventually these message will make an impact and that’s the whole point of writing articles. You always hope that your writing helps people, but it can only help if the people are ready to be helped. And that is different for all of us. Take care! (And, by the way, congrats on your wonderful iPro results).
